Beech plywood prices declined on European sales markets
Beech
plywood prices have declined again on the whole on European sales
markets over the past few weeks, manufacturers and importers report,
Euwid Wood products and panels informed. The latest contracts for
retail deliveries of standard and multiplex grades, in particular,
featured prices lower than those in the 1Q 2008 and 4Q 2007.
Prices
for deliveries to industrial buyers were generally high at present
given the longer duration of these contracts. Manufacturers registered
mounting pressure on prices for deliveries to retailers during the
first quarter after the supply of beech plywood had improved
significantly at the start of the year. A few producers had also raised
prices for multiplex board and custom grades. However, these mark-ups
were lower than last year's and met with much stronger opposition from
buyers.
