In 2007 a total of 8.2 million m3 of
timber for industry uses was felled in Norway. This is 850,000 m3, i.e.
12 % more than in the previous year. The reason for the increase was
the good timber prices. Felling has not been that extensive since the
years 1994/1995 apart from the exception year 2005.
The gross value of the timber sold to industry was 3 billion NOK, (375
million €) i.e. an increase of 32 % in comparison with the previous
year. Preliminary estimates indicate that forest owners' selling prices
increased to 370 NOK (46.25 €) per cubic meter. This is 57 NOK (7.0 €)
more than in 2006 and the best price forest owners have had since 1999,
even taking account of inflation.
Forecasts for 2008 indicate a reduction of saw timber prices, but an increase of the price for pulpwood.
